In September 2009 Lily was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that came in the form a large tumor in her abdomen. By the time they found it, the cancer had also spread to her bones and bone marrow. Lily endured several rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, a stem cell transplant, radiation, and anti-body therapy. She completed her treatment in October 2010 and earlier this year a scan showed the cancer had returned in her pelvis and spine. She is once again in the fight of her life. Lily started chemotherapy in March and lost her hair for the second time. This is one of the hardest parts of her journey. For a 10 year old your hair is such an identity. She has always had an eye for fashion so most days you will see Lily sporting a Vera Bradley dinner napkin on her head like the one in her video singing the National Anthem at the Atlanta Braves game. Lily was given this opportunity through the Rally Foundation, an organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. She also is a part of Kingdom Kids a non profit organization that grants wishes to kids like Lily who are suffering with an illness or difficult life circumstances. Be sure to check out both organizations on Facebook. This year on October 9, Kingdom Kids will be sponsoring the 3rd annual “Lily’s Run” A 5K in which all proceeds go to grant wishes to other children. This granting of wishes is what Lily loves the most. Lily’s dream is to be a country music artist. She Loves to sing and when given the opportunity to sing in front of over 35,000 people she accepted without any hesitation. Her favorites include Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, and American idols Lauren, Scotty, and Pia. I hope one day you all will get the chance to see Lily or better than that… meet this inspiring little girl I get to call my daughter.
